“Maria and Modernism” is a spectacular new book inspired by the exhibit of the same name at the Heard Museum (Phoenix Arizona). The book is a series of essays by various academics, giving insight into the world of Maria Martinez and her pottery.  The photos are striking and the essays bring a fresh approach to one of the exceptional Native potters of the last century.  I have included a few images of the book for reference but it is much better in person.  There are exceptional pieces by Maria Martinez in collaboration with Julian, Santana, and Popovi Da.  The work by Tony Da is equally striking and many have never before been published.  It brings the work on Maria Martinez, and its impact on contemporary Pueblo potters (Tammy Garcia, Cavan Gonzales, Jennifer Tafoya, Ty Moquino, Susan Folwell, and others)
