Hubert Candelario is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo. This new piece is one of his small melon bowls with eleven carved ribs. They each have a sharp edge and swirl from the rim to the base. They are slipped with micaceous clay, which gives the piece its color and sparkle. Did you know that Hubert will apply up to eight coats of mica to get an even tonality to his pottery! This seedpod is signed, “H C 2026” on the bottom.

Hubert Candelario is one of the few potters working at San Felipe Pueblo. This is one of his mini-melon bowls with 9 ribs. They are each carved into the clay and start very narrowly at the neck and get larger at the shoulder and narrow to the base. He can create beautiful symmetry with these pieces. The ribs each have a sharp edge and are slipped with micaceous clay, which gives the piece its color and sparkle. This seedpod is signed, “Hubert” on the bottom. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks restoration, or repair.

Hubert Candelario is one of the few active potters from San Felipe Pueblo. He began making pottery in 1990 using traditional micaceous clay. Hubert says he puts several coats of slip onto the surface so that the mica has an even "sparkle"! Hubert has won numerous awards for his pottery, and his work can be found in museums nationwide.
