Cata, Rosita – Bowl with Incised Potsuwi’i Mountain Designs (1960’s)

6.75"w x 4"h

$ 375.00

Rosita Cata was known for her traditional incised pottery. This bowl is polished red on the rim and base. The bowl is very tightly incised with triangular mountain designs.  The design style is derived from the Potsuwi‘i Incised Ware (1450-1500).  In the 1930s a group of San Juan Pueblo potters created a revival based on this style.  The recessed area of the incised designs is also slipped with mica.  The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Rosita Cata”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
