Chino, Marie Z. – Small Jar with Fine-Line Butterflies (1960s)

3"w x 3"h

$ 450.00

This is an intricately painted small jar by Marie Z. Chino.  Marie is famous as one of the revivalists at Acoma Pueblo, along with Lucy M. Lewis, Jessie Garcia, and a few others.  This seedpot is thin-walled and painted with bee-weed (black). The piece is painted with a fine-line butterfly on one side that interlocks with a star pattern.  The lines are VERY thin on this jar. The design covers nearly the entire surface of the piece. The jar was traditionally fired so there are some very slight color variations to the white.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “M. Z. Chino”.  It is always interesting to come across an unusual design that adds to our understanding of the creativity of this important Acoma potter!
