Jarrod Da has created a distinctive style of painting using pastels. Each piece is hand-painted, and it is amazing how much detail he is able to achieve in each piece! His new work is a blend of contemporary themes with San Ildefonso and Pueblo imagery. This piece is entitled, Beetle and Seed”. The painting has a more realistic beetle near the top. The larger design is a classic seed pattern seen in San Ildefonso pottery. There are additional Pueblo designs within the body of the seed. It is a striking use of pastel coloration. It comes in a black matte. It is signed, “DA 11”. It is in excellent condition.

His new work is a blend of contemporary themes with San Ildefonso and Pueblo imagery. This piece is entitled, “Blue Bear”. Jarrod says of this painting:
“This piece is a version of a bear that I created in memory of my own father’s creation of the bear shape. An arched design representing a heartline leads to a piece of turquoise and two Druzy white quartz stones that finish the piece and add perspective. There is a cloud design in front of the bear. The column on one end of the piece is done in a traditional Pueblo Style.”
The painting is subtle but complex in design. It comes in a black matte. It is signed, “DA 12”. It is in excellent condition.

Jarrod Da is the son of noted potter Tony Da, the grandson of Popovi Da and a great-grandson of Maria Martinez. He is a painter of innovative and creative works of pastel on paper. His imagery is a blend of traditional San Ildefonso designs, iconography used by his father, Tony Da, and also Jarrod's own interpretation of the modern world. Although raised in a family renown for pottery, Jarrod is making his artistic skills known through his painting. Jarrod is certainly a young artist to watch with his use of such a distinctive medium and an analytical eye for interpreting the world he paints. Jarrod has won several awards for his paintings at Santa Fe Indian Market and we look forward to seeing more of his creative and distinctive work!
