Garcia, Jason – “K’ahP’o Owingeh” Corn Maiden Series Clay Tile
$ 1,500.00
Jason Garcia is known for his creative clay tiles that incorporate scenes from Santa Clara Pueblo and the Pueblo world. Years ago, Jason began his career making tiles based on various Saints and is famous for both his Corn Maiden and Tewa Tales of Suspense Series. This piece is entitled, “K’haP’o Owinghe”, which means Santa Clara Pueblo in Tewa. It has a Corn Maiden leaning against a convertible. In the background, there is a kiva with a ladder extending upward. The TV satellites and TV antenna on the buildings indicate it is Santa Clara Pueblo, as St. Clair is the patron saint of TV’s. The two water towers in the background on the hill can be seen from Jason’s studio. Check out the wonderful on the Corn Maiden’s shawl and necklace! Beautiful. Of course, Jason’s signature polychrome raincloud is in the sky. This is a signature on much of Jason’s work. The tile is made from native clay. All of the colors are derived from Native clay, which is traditionally fired. It is signed on the back “Okuu Pin” which is Jason’s name in Tewa (which means Turtle Mountain).
