Namingha, Jocelyn Quam – Wide Jar with Butterflies

9"w x 4.5"h

$ 1,500.00

Jocelyn Quam Namingha is the wife of noted potter Les Namingha.  This jar is coil-built, stone-polished, and painted with bee-weed (black) and polished red clay areas. The jar is thin-walled and has a wide shoulder and short neck. The top of the shoulder has butterfly designs.  Below the shoulder are rain and wing patterns.  There is a striking contrast of polished and matte black areas.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.   It is signed on the bottom, “Jocelyn Quam Namingha”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
