Madeline Naranjo (1916-2020) was known for her deep carved pottery.  This jar has a round shoulder and a short neck. It is very deeply carved with an avanyu as the design.  Note how there are clouds above the avanyu on the neck.  As well, Madeline carved into the negative space of the jar extending the designs up from the base.  The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Madeline N.”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Madeline’s legacy continues in the pottery of her granddaughter, Madeline E. Naranjo.
