Pacheco, Paulita – 8″ Wide Jar with Star and Mesa Designs (1990s)

8"w x 5"h

$ 350.00

Paulita Pacheco was a sister of noted potter Robert Tenorio.  She was married to Gilbert Pacheco, and her daughter, Rose Pacheco, continues to make traditional-style Kewa pottery.  Paulita learned to make pottery from her mother, Juanita C. Tenorio, and grandmother, Andrea Ortiz. This is a classic wide shoulder jar with a short neck.  Looking down from the top, there is a star pattern over a mesa design.  On the sides are rain clouds.  It is painted with  wild spinach plant (black) and red clay slip.  The jar was traditionally fired.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Paulita Pacheco”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
