Patricio, Robert – 12″ Wide “Winter Flowers” Water Jar
$ 2,500.00
This is a classic large water jar by Robert Patricio. Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and prehistoric imagery. This piece is coil-built from native clay and is thin-walled. It has a high shoulder and a short neck. The jar is entitled, “Winter Flowers”. The jar is VERY intricately painted. There are large flower designs with rain patterns above them. Separating them are step-shaped cloud designs with imagery that represents the earth and Pueblo and below is the water in the ground. All the elements that allow flowers to bloom in the winter, giving voice to growth and prosperity in the new year. The combination of fine-lines, various colors, and complex designs, are striking on this piece. The jar is painted with bee-weed (a plant) and clay slips. Robert is one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today, evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs. The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
