WOW!  This is a spectacular, large jar by Robert Patricio.   Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery.  This piece is coil-built using traditional Acoma clay and is thin-walled. It has a classic high shoulder with a short neck.  Robert is amazing at painting thin-lines on his pottery!  This jar combines two traditional fine-line elements.  There are interlocking stars painted in five rows.  They are separated by horizontal bands of “shooting stars” that seem to shoot across the surface.  It is fascinating to see two classic designs combined on one piece!  The boldness of the lighting bands accentuates the delicate, thinly painted lines.  The size of the jar adds to its impressive appearance!  Note the precision of the lines!  It is exceptional, and the black and white coloration gives the jar a very modern appearance.  Robert is one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today, evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
