WOW!  This is a spectacular large jar by Robert Patricio.   Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery.  This piece is coil-built using traditional Acoma clay and thin-walled. It has a classic high shoulder with short neck.  Robert is amazing at painting thin-lines on his pottery!  This jar combines two traditional fine-line elements.  There are interlocking stars painted in two rows.  They are separated by bands of interlocking lightning patterns.  It is fascinating to see two classic designs combined together on one piece!  The boldness of the lighting bands accentuates the delicate thinly painted lines.  The size of the jar adds to its impressive appearance!  Note the precision of the lines!  It is exceptional, and the black and white coloration gives the jar a very modern appearance.  Robert is one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today, evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.

Robert Patricio

Robert is the son of Doris Patricio and the brother of Doug, Israel, and Myron Patricio.  His great-grandfather was Santiago Zieu, and his grandmother was Helen Zieu Patricio (1911-1983).  His great-aunt was Marie Z. Chino.  His aunt (cousin) was Grace Chino, who taught him to make pottery.  Robert is known for his traditionally built vessels and for using traditional shapes and designs.  He has won numerous awards for his pottery, including "Best of Pottery" at Santa Fe Indian Market in 2010 and 2022!  Each piece is coil-built and painted with clay slips and bee weed (black).  Robert says he signs his "RM Patricio" pieces for Robert Marcus Patricio.
