This is a classic long neck water jar by Robert Patricio.  Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and prehistoric imagery. This piece is coil-built from native clay and is thin-walled. It has a round shoulder and an elongated neck. The jar is fully painted. The jar has interlocking key-hole doorways as the design.  One would expect to see these doorway at buildings in Chaco Canyon or Mesa Verde.  They are separated by filled in with fine-lines.  They are separated by squares slipped red, representing the light coming from within the structure.  The jar brings together a historic shape (the doorways) in a more modernist appearance.  It is striking and colorful. The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
