Suina, Jeff – 16″ Tall “Metropolis” Jar
$ 4,500.00
Jeff Suina works in clay and multi-media. Each piece is made from clay and painted with mineral clays for the design. This is one of his creative sculptural pieces. The jar is slab-built to create the flat sides. The piece is entitled “Metropolis”. Jeff said about this piece:
“This piece gave me a chance to experiment with more cubic, architectural forms. It is reminiscent of a dwelling, as I considered what if Pueblo culture was allowed to continue and truly thrive undisturbed? We see the architecture that the Mayans and Incas (our cousins to the south) were able to create in the peak of their history. I allowed myself to visualize what Pueblo people would have been able to fully develop and realize their engineering and architectural skills. I committed to taking more time to paint this one, really planning it out carefully. When I am painting traditional designs, I feel myself as a vessel for bringing these works to life. I feel that I allow the respect for my culture, my pueblo, to flow through me, and I am discovering things about myself, too.”
The piece is painted with mountains, clouds, and geometric designs. The designs flow across the surface of the various angles and shapes. The contrasting positive and negative spaces are visually striking to the eye. The piece is signed, “Jeff Suina”.
