6"w x 4"h

$ 500.00

This is a classic carved bowl by Agapita Tafoya.  She was the wife of noted potter Camilio Tafoya and the mother of Grace Medicine Flower and Joseph Lonewolf. Agapita created most of her pottery from the 1930s to the early 1950s. This bowl is from the 1940s and it is deeply carved and stone polished. The bowl has a rain, lightning, and plant design. Typical of her carved pottery, it is very deeply carved.  The piece is fired a deep red coloration.  The recessed area has a cream-colored slip which was used for contrast with the red clay slip.  The bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Agapita Tafoya”.
