Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and also her amazing animal figures! This jar has a square shape and an elongated neck. The jar is fully polished and the inside of the neck is slipped with mica. The neck of the jar has four etched bees with flowers. They are each realistically depicted with great detail etched into the clay. The background area is more deeply etched with small circles, representing the honeycomb. The bottom of the jar has a series of flowing flowers and tiny etched bees. The jar was fired black and then etched with a design. All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”. Definitely an exceptional piece of her pottery art.
