Tafoya, Jennifer – Square Jar with Gray Foxes
$ 3,200.00
Jennifer Tafoya is known for her intricately etched pottery. Each piece is coil-built, stone polished, and traditionally fired. The designs are etched into the clay, and additional clay colors are added. This jar is square in shape, has an elongated neck. On the top are three Gray Foxes. Each fox is realistic in detail. Did you know Gray Foxes one of the few species of foxes that can climb a tree!?! They do this to hunt for food and escape predators. Sometimes they even make their dens in the trees, though when they have young, they prefer to sleep underground. Each one is depicted in a different position. There are tiny fox tracks etched into the clay leading up to the rim. There are additional feather and cloud designs. The realism is exceptional on this piece. The jar shape, size, and designs work together perfectly on this piece. All the various colors are derived from natural clay slips. The piece is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Jennifer Tafoya”. Jennifer continues to be one of the leading innovative potters working today!
