Jennifer Tafoya is known for her clay vessels and amazing animal figures! This clay bird figure is a White-Crested Sparrow. It is fully polished and fully designed. On the back are flowers, and the head and neck are fully etched with realistic feathers. The sides have additional feathers along with swirling plant designs. It is a very complex and creative piece with A LOT of detail. It was traditionally fired and after Jennifer has etched the designs into the clay, she then adds additional clay slips for the various colors. All the various colors are derived from natural clays that Jennifer seeks out herself. The eyes are inset pieces of jet. It is signed on the bottom, “Jennifer Tafoya”.
