11"w x 5"h

$ 3,200.00

This is a late piece by Mark Tahbo.  He learned to make pottery from his great-grandmother, Grace Chapella.  His pieces reflect the remarkable symmetry and thin walls of an excellent potter.  This jar is is an elegant shape with a wide shoulder and a tiny neck.  The jar is painted with bee-weed and various colors of clay slips. One side has a quail, and the other a hummingbird.  They are separated by a bird tail design highlighted with a deep burgundy clay.  The jar was traditionally fired and it has a beautiful coloration! It is signed on the bottom with, “Mark Tahbo” and a pipe representing that he is Tobacco Clan.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
