Tapia, Tom – Tan Seedpot with Katsina and Sun Designs (1980s)

This is an intricately designed seedpot by Tom Tapia. The seepdot is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay. One side has a Tewa Sun, the other a Heote Katsina. Separating them are stylized birds. This is the only piece I’ve seen by Tom in this coloration. Polishing tan is difficult, so it might be why he didn’t do very many. The piece was traditionally fired. It is signed, “Tom Tapia”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
