Williams, Lorraine – 10″ Wide Storage Jar with 7 Yei Figures, Clouds and Corrugated Star Design

10"w x 9.5"h

$ 1,000.00

This is an exceptional medium-sized storage jar by Lorraine Williams.  This was one of her iconic shapes and the shape and it’s great to see it in a medium size.  The jar has a round body, high shoulder, and short neck. The top of the jar is incised with a corrugated style star design.  It is precise and nearly reaches the shoulder!  Below the shoulder is a cloud and mountain design.  Below that are a series of seven Yei figures.  They are holding lighting, arrows, and feather bundles.  The jar has been traditionally fired, which creates the variations in color. Interestingly, these large pieces are fired upside down!  After the firing, it is covered in pine pitch, which is typical of all traditional Navajo pottery, harkening back to when it was utilitarian.  Lorraine has won numerous awards for her pottery and been featured in books such as “A Legacy of Generations”.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “LW and Lorraine Williams”.
