Wanda Aragon (b. 1948) is a daughter of noted potter Frances Torivio. She is also known by her name in Acoma, Dzinats’ituwits’a.  She is known for her traditional Acoma pottery that is coil built, and painted with bee-weed and clay slips for coloration.  This is one of the largest pieces we have had of her work.  It is a large, coil-built canteen that is painted with bee-weed and red clay.  The piece sits at an angle and has handles and an extended spout.  The front of the canteen has a heartline deer, Acoma clouds and swirling birds, and a lot of fine-line painting!  The back of the piece has a plant design highlighted with bands of red clay.  It is a complicated shape with exceptional painting!  It is signed on the bottom, “W. Aragon”.  it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
