Mary Cain was a daughter of Christina Naranjo and a granddaughter of SaraFina Tafoya. She was known for her classic style carved and polished Santa Clara pottery. This bowl is from the 1970s. It is carved with her classic water serpent which encircles the piece. As the bowl is turned there are rain, cloud, and lightning designs. Note how she used the negative space from the base of the bowl to extend the designs upward. The bowl is fully polished and fired a deep black. It is signed on the bottom, “Mary Cain”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely a classic of her pottery style!Mary Cain”.
