Mary Lewis was a daughter of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis. She was never as prolific as her sisters Emma, Dolores, and Carmel. The plate has a single large Mimbres-inspired frog as the design. The rim of the piece is slipped with red clay. The Mimbres pottery designs of the 1100s began to be used as imagery on Acoma pottery in the 1960s. It is signed on the back, “Mary D. Lewis”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
