Caroline Lucero-Carpio is from Isleta Pueblo. She studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts and has been working in clay for over 40 years. She is also known for her bronzes. Her pottery is coil-built, stone polished, and fired. In 2000 she received a SWAIA fellowship and was Artist of the Year for the Indian Arts and Craft Association, (IACA). This plate is made from native red clay and it is stone polished on the front. There is a carved flower design in the center. It is surrounded by a row of turquoise hei-shi beads. The plate is signed on the back, “Caroline Carpio”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
