Dolly Naranjo is a daughter of Rose Naranjo and the mother of Jody and Elija Naranjo. This is a collaborative piece with her son, Elija. The jar is coil-built and the top half is fully polished. The bottom half is matte. The jar has four butterflies etched into the clay. The bottom half of the jar has star patterns. The piece was traditionally fired to create the coloration on the surface It is signed “Dolly Naranjo + Elija Naranjo” on the bottom in the clay. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Dolly Naranjo
Dolly Naranjo (b.1947) is a daughter or Rose Naranjo and a sister of artists Jody Folwell, Michael Naranjo, Nora Naranjo-Morse and Rina Swentzell. She is the mother of noted potters Jody Naranjo and Eli Naranjo. Dolly creates coil built pieces with incised designs and a firing technique that leaves them brownish in color.
Naranjo, Elija (b. 1978)
Elijah Naranjo Smith is a son of Dolly Naranjo and a brother of Jody Naranjo. He has been working with clay since 1999. In 2003 he won the Ron & Susan Dubin Native American Artist Fellowship Award from the School for Advanced Research. That allowed him to study the designs in the IARC collection and work on pottery in the SAR studios. He works with traditional clays and firing methods, producing brown, black and red combination pots with sgraffito designs.
