Naranjo, Florence Aguilar – 9″ Plate with Feathers, Lightning, (1974) and Ribbon
$ 900.00
Florence Naranjo was a daughter of noted potters Rosalie & Joe Aguilar and a granddaughter of Susana Aguilar. Her brother, Alfred Aguilar, is also a well-known potter at San Ildefonso Pueblo. This is one of her classic black-on-black plates. The front of the plate is fully polished. It is painted with a feather pattern. In the center are lighting, rain, and cloud designs. The central section is certainly reminiscent of the design style of her feather Joe Aguilar. Note the precision and symmetry of the feathers! It is signed on the back, “Florence Naranjo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. The piece has a ribbon from the 1974 Gallup Ceremonials.
