Ellsworth Polacca Nampeyo was a son of noted potter Fannie Nampeyo and a grandson of Nampeyo of Hano. He was a brother of Elva Nampeyo, Leah Nampeyo, Tonita Nampeyo, Harold Polacca, Thomas Polacca, and Iris Nampeyo. He began making pottery in the late 1970s and continued through the 1980s. This jar is fully polished red. It is designed on one side with a Badger Katsina and the opposite side has a Badger Paw. Badgers are symbolic of good health. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ellsworth Polacca Nampeyo”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. He was not very prolific so we do not see a lot of his pieces of pottery come back to the gallery.
