Naranjo, Dominguita Sisneros – Bowl with Incised Potsuwi’i Rain Designs (1960s)

5.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 200.00

Dominguita Sisneros Naranjo is a daughter of noted Ohkay Owingeh potter Tomasita Montoya and a sister of Rosita de Herrera. This bowl is coil built and the rim and base are fully polished red.  Note the deep red coloration of the red clay.  This is the color seen on Ohkay Owingah pottery in the 1930’s and 40s.  It’s unusual to see it later and it could be that she was using a slip from her mother from that earlier time period.  The center band on the top of the shoulder is very tightly incised with a vertical rain design and then slipped with mica.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Dominguita Sisneros”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
