Medina, Marcellus – Jar with Two Koshari and Pine Branches
$ 550.00
This is a striking white-on-black jar by Marcellus Medina. He is known for contemporary painted pottery. The jar is made by his wife, Elizabeth Medina. Marcellus has painted on the surface with acrylic. This “white-on-black” style was made famous by Rafael Medina (his father) and JD Medina (his uncle) in the 1970s. While they would paint colorful pieces using acrylic, these more subdued styles are often more difficult as it is more tonal variations to create the scenes. The jar has a Koshari clown on each side. They are separated by Pine Branches. Each figure is detailed, as are the branches. Note the exceptional detail in the figures. That is Marcellus at his best! The jar is signed on the side, “M. Medina + E. Medina”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
