This is a tall jar by Susan Folwell.  It is coil-built and has a creative shape that provides a lot of surface design.  The jar has a raised band extending from the neck and the neck is polished.  The jar was fired a brown coloration.  It is fully incised with large avanyu (water serpents) and Wild Horses.  The remainder of the jar has geometric designs inicsed into the clay surrounding the other designs.  The neck is etched with the Folwell family “x’s”.  There are also smaller horses that are black where Susan used a rubber stamp and clay to create each horse.  The piece is visually complex and striking in appearance.  It is signed, “Susan Folwell”.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
