This is an unusually detailed designed jar by Maria Martinez and Santana. The jar was coil-built and polished by Maria Martinez and painted by her daughter-in-law, Santana.  The design has angular clouds with elongated bird wings.  What is so unusual? The wings have large sections with hachure lines.  It is not often that she painted with such detail.  The designs of the jar utilize the highly polished surface to accentuate the imagery.   The jar is signed “Marie + Santana” on the bottom in the clay before it was fired.  The jar is from the 1950s.  It is in nearly excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely and exciting and visually dynamic plate with spectacular design and coloration!
