$ 375.00

Stella Tanner (Kwa Povi) and her son Roy (Tsigowanu) began making pottery together in 1976.  Stella was a granddaughter of Luteria Atencio, a daughter of Crucita Talalchy, and a sister of Mary Gutierrez and Joe Talachy.  It was Luteria who taught them both to make pottery.   Stella made and polished the pottery and Roy etched the designs into the surface. This is a larger seed bowl by them.  The piece is fully polished.  There is a large fawn and a rabbit etched into the clay.  They are both highlighted with white clay.  The rabbit has an inset piece of turquoise for the eye.  The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom, “Kwa Povi & Tsigowanu”.  They stopped working around 1986, but during their brief career as potters, they won awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and  Eight Northern Indian Market.
