Norman Lansing (Ute) is a self-taught potter.  He etches finely detailed designs and images of the natural and spiritual energies in his world. He mixes his own glazes to create the effect he wants, depending on the story he’s telling.  This jar is thin-walled and entitled “Bison”.  The top of the bowl is fully etched with al large Bison as the design.  It is surrounded by additional geometric patterns.  The piece is signed near the base, “N. Lansing”.  His buffalo cipher is also etched into the bottom.   It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
