Mary Small (1940-2024) was known for her traditional Jemez pottery.  It is not just her painting that was distinctive, but the gray clay she used.  This large bowl is coil-built and painted with her famous coloration.  It is an unusual design for her pottery with a feather pattern on the top.  Around the sides are step clouds and plant patterns below.  The base has interlocking birds.  It is a testament to her creativity in design and ability to create large vessels.  It is signed on the bottom, “Mary Small”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
