Juanita Fragua was known for classic Jemez pottery and was the mother of potters BJ Fragua and Glendora Fragua and son Cliff Fragua, who is a well-known sculptor. This is one of her classic polychrome jars. It has a high shoulder and a square neck. The front of the jar is painted with clay slips to create a feather pattern, rounded clouds, and rain designs. The remainder of the jar is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay. The inside of the neck has her signature lightning bolt. It is signed on the bottom, “Juanita Fragua”. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
