Josephine Nahohai (1912-2007) began making pottery in the 1950’s. She was the mother of noted potters Randy Nahohai and Milford Nahohai. She was known for the creation of very traditional style Zuni pottery. This piece was made by Josephine and painted by her son, Milford. The jar has a round shape and there are two large frogs in relief on the sides. They are each very tightly painted with circles and lighting patterns. Separating them are two turtles in relief. The rounded “shell” of each turtle is painted with a longhair katsina. It is a charming and wonderfully designed bowl! It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed, “Josephine Milford Nahohai” on the bottom in the clay.
