This is a classic jar by Maria Martinez. The jar was coil-built and polished by Maria Martinez. It was then painted by her daughter-in-law, Santana. The jar has a round shape and a short neck. It is highly polished and has a feather pattern around the side. Separating the two sections of feathers is a double lightning pattern band. The jar was fired to a silvery gunmetal coloration. It is signed, “Maria + Santana” on the bottom in the clay before it was fired. The jar is from the 1954-6 period. It is in nearly excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely an exciting and visually dynamic plate with spectacular design and coloration!
