Tso, Jared – “The Necklace” Swirl Polished Storage Jar

14"w x 15"h

$ 5,500.00

This is a thin-walled storage jar by Jared Tso.  He is one of the rising stars of Native pottery.  He is a grandson of potter Faye Tso and his pottery is exceptionally refined in technique and traditional in style.  Each piece is coil-built from traditional native Navajo clay and traditionally fired.  This jar has a round, storage jar shape.  The neck has sharp ridges with indented sections.  One of the sections has a small piece of turquoise attached.  The jar is entitled “The Necklace”.  Jared says that in Dine, the neck designs on a jar are called “the necklace”.  As well, there is always an open space of design on the neck, and this is the “doorway”.  The jar was stone polished at an angle and fired a silvery black with exceptional fire-clouds. It is exciting to see an artist find inspiration in the historic work and, using the same clays, refine them in a modernistic manner.  The jar is signed, “Jared Tso”.
