$ 2,000.00

Stephanie Tafoya is a great-granddaughter of Margaret Tafoya, a granddaughter of Lee Tafoya, and the daughter of Mel Tafoya. She has learned to make pottery from her aunt, Linda Tafoya-Sanchez, and is currently working on perfecting her techniques with Nathan Youngblood.  Each piece is coil-built, carved, stone polished, and traditionally fired.  This long neck jar is entitled, “A Flame of Feathers”. The jar is carved with 80 feathers from the rim to the base.  The feathers are either polished red or matte.  The matte feathers are incised with linear designs.  Note that the feathers are polished on the rim of the jar as well!  The feathers match the shape of the jar with longer feathers on the neck and shorter feathers near the base.  The feather design was inspired by her pet parrot Beto (see last photo).  Her name in Tewa is “Khung Be”, which means Holly Berry which she signs as a hallmark along with her name.
