This is a large water jar by Linda Tafoya-Sanchez.  The jar is made from native clay and is coil-built. There are 54 carved feathers extending down from the rim.  There are an additional 54 carved feathers extending up from the base. Around the center are two avanyu encircling the jar.  Note the shape of the head of each avanyu, as they are similar in style to those carved by her father, Lee Tafoya.  The jar is highly polished and traditionally fired a glassy black.  The style of the jar has a very modernist appearance and yet is classic in traditional design elements.  It is signed on the bottom, “Linda Tafoya-Sanchez”.
