Gachupin, Bertha – Jar with Corn, Pueblo, and Turtles in Relief

6.5"w x 7.5"h

$ 250.00

Bertha Gachupin learned to make pottery from her grandmother, Persingula Gachupin.  Her aunt Marie Romero, mother Lenora Fragua, and cousins Maxine Toya and Laura Gachupin are also potters.  This jar is coil built and there are painted corn and pueblo scenes.  As the jar is turned there is a drum in relief on one side and a turtle on the other.  The neck and base of the jar are fully polished.  The area is matte and painted with various clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom, “Bertha Gachupin” and a corn stalk.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
