Joseph Naranjo (1941-2023) began making pottery in 1967. He was a grandson of Amelia Tafoya and a son of Eugene and Isabel Naranjo. He was the brother of JoeAnn Naranjo and Jolene Nelson. He learned to make pottery from his mother. He was married to Eunice Naranjo. This jar has a sharp, wide shoulder and short neck. There is a very deeply carved avanyu in the top of the shoulder. The entire piece is highly polished and fired a deep black coloration. It is signed on the bottom, “Joseph G. Naranjo”. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
