Naha, Burel – 11″ Wide Seedpot with Three Spiders and Awatovi Star

11"w x 5.25"h

$ 1,875.00

This is an exceptional large seepdot by Burel Naha.  He is the son of Helen “Featherwoman” Naha and a brother of Rainy Naha and Sylvia Naha.  While he no longer makes much pottery, he was well known for his intricately painted pieces and especially the use of the spider design.  This large piece has three of his realistic spiders on the top with a painted web.  The back of each spider has a geometric design.  Note how, surrounding the spider, he has created a “web” using bee weed and stippling the design.  The bottom of the piece is painted with the Awatovi Star pattern, made famous by his mother.  It is a large and complex piece. It is painted using bee-weed (black) on a white kaolin clay surface.  It is signed on the bottom with a feather and a Long Hair katsina, which is his hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
