WOW!  This is a striking large and colorful water jar by Robert Patricio.  Robert is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery.  This jar is coil-built using native clay, thin-walled, and painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips.  The jar has rain cloud designs around the neck.  There are cloud designs below with tightly painted Acoma parrots.  Below the birds are additional rain and cloud designs.  There are additional diamond-shaped rainbows extending from the rim to near the base.  Note how there are thin lines in the red-painted areas of the design. The jar is fully painted and the more you look, the more complex the painting is on this large piece.  Robert is certainly one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today, as evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
