Nampeyo, Rayvin – Seedpot with Four Moth Designs
$ 300.00
Rayvin Nampeyo (b. 1961) is a son of Leah Garcia Nampeyo, a grandson of Fannie Nampeyo, and a great-grandson of Nampeyo of Hano. He is a brother of James Nampeyo. This seedpot is round in shape and it is coil-built and fully polished. It is painted with bee-weed and clay slips. The design has a series of four moths encircling the side of the piece. Did you know that the word for moth and butterfly is the same in Hopi-Tewa? The moths are each highly detailed, and their wings are polished red. The top of the seedpot has star patterns in a mottled “night sky”. The seedpot was traditionally fired so there are slight blushes on the surface. It is signed on the bottom, “Rayvin Nampeyo” and a corn plant for Corn Clan. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
