This is a classic asymmetrical jar by Russell Sanchez. The rim of the jar is polished green. The central band is micaceous and the bottom is polished red. The central band has an avanyu and the bottom has etched tadpoles. Separating the top green and micaceous sections are two rows of shell hei-shi beads and a band of copper leafing. The avanyu has an inset piece of turquoise for the eye. It is amazing how many colors of clay Russell is able to use in his work. The piece is from around 2003 and is signed with his hallmark kayak from that time period. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
