Russell Sanchez continues to be one of the true innovators in Pueblo pottery.  Each piece is coil-built, stone-polished, and traditionally fired.  This large water jar is spectacular!  The shape is a classic round shape with a turned-out rim.  Of course, Russell has used the shape as a canvas for his distinctive style of design.  The rim is two-toned green and has inset hematite stones. The neck has additional inset hematite stones along with titanium hei-shi beads. The body of the jar has an avanyu with a sienna eye. The eye has an inset turquoise stone and the body of the avanyu has a series of TINY turquoise insets.  There are an additional 28 inset diamonds around the eye of the avanyu and the rain cloud. The jar has two bands of copper leafing around the neck and base.  Near the base is an additional row of inset hematite stones.  Overall, there are a total of 330 inset stones on the jar!  All the stones are inset after firing.  The jar is elegant in shape and design with a modern strength.  It is signed, “Russell ’24”.
