Emma Lewis was a daughter of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis. This jar is a classic seedpot that is made from native clay and painted with bee-weed. There are Mimbres “Mythical animal”. This one has a deer with a fish head! These strange animals were often depicted on Mimbres pottery of the 1100’s. The top has a fineline star pattern. It is signed on the bottom, “Emma Lewis”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
