Patricio, Robert – “Hunters” Water Jar with Heartline Deer and 24 Panels of Design

Robert Patricio is known for his classic forms and use of both traditional and pre-historic imagery. This is a classic water jar with a high shoulder and elongated neck. This is the first time we have had this design from Robert. He said it is a “Hunter’s Jar” with heartline deer, stars, flowers, and butterflies. The jar has 24 separate panels of design and they are separated by checkerboard patterns. The panels are painted with bee-weed (black) or clay slips. It is exceptional in the complexity and variety of design. The heartline deer is a classic design in Acoma pottery with the heartline representing the heart, or spirit, of the deer. The base of the jar is slipped red. Robert is certainly one of the leading traditional Acoma potters working today which is evidenced by his stunning forms and complementary designs. The jar is signed on the bottom, “R. M. Patricio”.
